The nutritionist ensures that the patient in medical rehabilitation has a diet according to his/her specific condition and desired results.
The role of nutritionists in medical rehabilitation is twofold. First, it consists of defining an adequate diet for an individual patient and educating the patient about good nutrition to ensure the adoption of the necessary eating habits upon completion of the program.
Adequate nutrition is provided to each patient per their health condition, which supports a faster recovery, supports the effectiveness of the prescribed pharmacotherapy and enables a quicker return to daily life activities.
At the same time, the nutritionist educates patients through public lectures and workshops on proper meal preparation and conducts individual education of patients and their families on good nutrition, which will be extremely important after the patient leaves the rehabilitation centre.
During the aforementioned educational programs, as well as during individual education, the patient consults with a nutritionist about foods that are useful depending on the state of health and the presence of health complications, appropriate portion sizes, the total required energy and nutritional intake of nutrients and other dietary recommendations, and in collaboration between nutritionist and patient finds the best and most realistic way to change risky eating habits.
