Cardiac electrostimulation program
Laboratory for Invasive and Interventional Cardiology implements a program of cardiac electrostimulation. We install various cardiac electrostimulation devices in patients to treat heart failure, i.e. primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death.
An expert and well-coordinated medical team consisting of three doctors, seven nurses and three medical radiology engineers install an average of 125 heart electrostimulation devices annually. Annually through the program, we treat 125 people with heart failure; that is, we perform a procedure on them to prevent their sudden cardiac death.
Our Laboratory installs the following cardiac electrostimulation devices: a pacemaker, Devices for heart synchronization (CRT devices) and a Cardioverter defibrillator (ICD - electro stimulator of the heart).
Installation of an electro-stimulator of the heart (pacemaker) is an invasive cardiology procedure used to treat diseases of the heart's conduction system, i.e. irregularity in the generation and conduction of cardiac impulses through the heart. Electrodes are implanted into the heart through the venous system in the right heart chambers, atrium and ventricle. The electrodes are then connected to the heart pacemaker, implanted under the skin, usually under the left shoulder. The electro-stimulator creates an electrical impulse that corrects a slow and irregular heart rhythm.
Devices for cardiac synchronization (CRT devices) are special electro-stimulators that equalize the simultaneous contraction of the left and right ventricles of the heart, with the installation of an additional electrode in the left ventricle in specific indications.
A cardioverter defibrillator (ICD - electrical heart stimulator) treats slow rhythm disorders, such as electrostimulation systems. This device also can deliver an electric shock in the treatment of rapid, life-threatening arrhythmias, such as ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation, thus preventing sudden cardiac death.
